Town Board Workshop with Hudson Highlands Land Trust – 4/21/21
The Town of Philipstown, in partnership with the Hudson Highlands Land Trust, will be hosting a public workshop on Wednesday, April 21st @ 7:00pm via ZOOM to introduce the “East Highlands Green Corridors Planâ€* — a project to connect land for people and wildlife across the Hudson Highlands region. HHLT is seeking public input to identify community priorities for open space conservation in Philipstown that can be incorporated into the plan.
The East Highlands Green Corridors Plan will include a detailed approach for permanently protecting “green corridors” between existing conserved lands in Philipstown and beyond, so that wildlife—and people—can move and thrive across the landscape. The plan will prioritize areas to protect based on natural resource maps, land use, and scientific data on at-risk species and habitats, as well as input from user groups, elected officials and residents.
During the workshop, the HHLT team will also introduce the proposed Conservation Plan for Philipstown, and solicit volunteers to join a Task Force that will lead the development of the plan over the course of 2021. The Conservation Plan will build on existing natural resources planning documents, like the Open Space Inventory and newly updated Natural Resources Inventory, in addition to HHLT’s Green Corridors Plan. Once completed, the Conservation Plan may help the Town access new funding sources for conservation projects, like creating new local parks and trails, securing walkable paths for/within the community (a priority identified in the Philipstown Community Congress), and protecting drinking water sources.
